Twisted Dark Elf
High-school special
Chapter two:
Life’s not a Competition!
It started right away. Leah and Allison made a competition out of everything! Who sat by Karl, who was Rena’s best friend, who did better in Gym, who got higher marks and, the biggest one at the start, who was class president.
“Vote for me! Vote for me!” said an enthused Leah, handing out promotional posters to the class as they walked in the door to start the day. Allison was doing the exact same thing on the other side of the door.
The first one to walk in was Lizyy, she took one of each poster and eyed them thoughtfully. Celia marched in the room, took the first poster that was handed to her, crumpled it and threw it in the garbage. “Why do you two care so much about being class pres?” she asked with a sneer.
“Well if you must know,” said Allison. “I think that it’s a wonderful position of authority that will teach responsibility.”
Celia frowned and sighed. “Well if you really care about that crap then go on acting stupid.” She walked over to her seat and gave Lizyy a suspicious glance along the way. Next Jake and Callie walked in, took a couple posters each and went to sit next to Celia.
Rena walked quietly into the room, smiled and took some posters, after looking them over, she took her seat.
Karl started to walk into the room but was soon bombarded with the two girls shoving their posters in their face. He lightly pushed them away and without taking any posters he took his seat. His face was a mixture of a scowl and a frown. Allison and Leah got all their papers together and went to sit by Karl, but since he was on the end of the table, there was only one available spot. They quickly began shoving each other away from the chair while Karl just stared at them and wished he was anywhere else.
The class looked upon the situation and their giggles turned to laughs as Allison successfully shoved Leah on the floor and took the seat beside Karl. Leah got up and sat in-between Allison and Rena as if nothing happened. Rena looked at Leah with wide eyes. “Are you okay!?” she gasped.
“Don’t worry, I am fine.” Sang Leah with a warm smile. “I will exact my revenge later.” Her face turned devious, Rena cringed and looked away.
Everyone got settled for the first class, soon afterwards Miss. L. walked in the room with a grin. “Now class,” she started. “Remember to vote for class president throughout this week, on the weekend I’ll count the votes and the victor will be named on Monday next week.” Her green eyes shone with excitement as they usually did at the beginning of the year.
Jake leaned over and whispered to Celia “So how do you feel about the competition this year?”
She scowled at him “I never liked being class president in the first place, why all you people kept voting for me is a mystery.”
The two looked up and saw their red headed teacher staring at them “Are you two done talking yet?” her voice was stern. After that Jake and Celia sat up and began paying attention to the class.
Throughout History 20 Leah and Allison would always raise their hands in response to questions asked, while the rest of the class watched in silence. The two girls never got a question wrong and Miss. L. pointed to whoever raised their hand first. The whole competition looked rather silly. Things continued on this way until lunch, the bell rang and everyone got up to leave.
“I didn’t dismiss you yet.” Miss. L. stated. She made the class sit down for a couple more minutes and then told them they could go. The class of eight went to get their lunches and came back to the room to eat. Allison and Leah had another little fight over who sat by Karl, Allison won again.
Leah got up, brushed herself off and sat by Rena, who just stared at her. “Don’t worry.” She said sweetly. “I am okay.”
“Why do you try to sit by him when you know Allison will win?” Rena asked.
Leah smiled “I have to try, right?”
In the meantime Callie, Jake and Celia were getting settled in their usual spot. Jake noticed Celia glance at Lizyy. “So what do ya think of her?”
“Huh?”
“Lizyy.” Jake stared at Celia.
“I know her from somewhere, I don’t know where, when or why though.”
“So you’re suspicious of her.” He surmised.
“You could say that.” Celia scowled. Lizyy sat in her spot by herself, and ate her lunch. She didn’t seem to care if anyone was staring at her.
Noon hour passed by this way, then it was Gym. This was the first Gym class of the year. The students piled into the Gymnasium, except Celia, it seemed she decided to skip the afternoon. Mr. S. entered the room and told everyone to get into pairs. Allison and Leah started fighting about who would go with Karl, but while they were at it he teamed up with Jake. After Allison won the battle Leah and Rena teamed up while Allison was looking around for Karl.
Callie walked up to Allison. “I’ll team up with you, Karl already went with Jake.”
“Fine.” Allison frowned.
Lizyy snuck out of the Gym to avoid the awkwardness of not having a partner. Lizyy headed to her locker to get some homework, so at least she could get something done. On her way there she bumped into Celia, who was on her way out of the school. “Watch where you’re going, ditz!” Celia scowled.
“Sorry about that…” smiled Lizyy. She then got a serious expression “You’re skipping school on the second day?”
“What’s it to you?” Celia frowned. “I don’t like school and that’s all there is to it. Anyway, how can you talk to me about skipping when you’re not even in class right now?”
Lizyy sighed. “I just left because we were asked to pair up and I was the odd one out, it was kinda awkward.”
“It doesn’t matter what your reason is, the fact remains that you’re still skipping.”
“Ya, I guess you’re right.”
“Well, it wouldn’t be the first time.” Celia smirked.
Back in the gym the groups of two split up and two teams of three were formed. They started playing soccer. On one team there was Karl, Rena and Allison, and on the other were Jake, Leah and Callie. Callie and Karl put on the goalie jerseys and got into position in the nets on opposite sides of the room. The other four gathered around the centre of the Gym and Mr. S. dropped the ball in the middle of the small circle they made.
As soon as the ball hit the floor Leah and Allison both tried to kick it. The attempt failed though because they both hit the ball at the same time so it skidded off to the side, where Rena caught it. Rena started kicking the ball to the net with Callie, but before she made it Jake stepped in. They danced around the Gym for a while in a flirtatious manner when Rena tried to keep the ball from Jake. “Gotcha!” Jake exclaimed as he kicked the ball from between her feet. He ran behind her to retrieve it and winked before taking off to the net with Karl.
Jake kicked the ball full force and aimed to get it past Karl. Karl blocked the ball and kicked it over to Allison. Leah ran up to Allison and the two started fighting for the ball. “Ha! I’m on Karl and Rena’s team that is my boyfriend and best friend!” Allison laughed. “And to top it off, you suck at soccer!”
“Oh please, Allison!” Leah frowned “Use the logical part of your brain and understand that it is purely coincidence that you ended up on a team with them.”
“Or maybe it was fate.” Allison grinned.
“In that case it is fate that you guys are going to lose!” Allison responded with a confused look and Leah snatched the ball from her. Leah fired the ball across the Gym to Jake, who then kicked it past Karl and into the net.
At the end of the day, when nobody was in the classroom, Karl wrote down his vote for class president, put it into the box on Miss. L.’s desk and left for home.
