I woke up in my bed, filled with the feeling something wasn't right. The lights were out and it was raining outside. The sound of the water droplets falling on the ground were very audible. I shouldn't worry. It was just a feeling. I was just bored and started making weird assumptions. I stood up, walked up to my couch and sat on it. I turned on my TV. The mayor's pale face appeared on the screen behind a grey wooden table.
「I have to announce to my poor citizen, the experiment came to an end. It was a huge success. We didn't expect it to turn out as such an accomplishment.」
As if masking the mayor's face, a clock appeared with a number over it. The number was a thirteen, while the clock showed six o'clock A.M. Citizens in the outside screamed. Mayor Esimed had a happy tone, yet he called us his poor citizen. I wanted to scream too, but I couldn't bring myself to. My life, and what I could see if it was already so sad it would have been a lie to panic. My bad feeling... I had to listen to it. I knew something happened.
All around me, the room kept it's stone color. Was it a variant of black or white, it didn't matter what kind of grey it was, but the experiment being done, it was probably going to end. It was going to end. The white neon flickered, letting sparks go out. My cell-like room had a bed with a steel frame, a white cover, a grey blanket and a white pillow. The windows were made of a steel frame and some glass. Right here, I wanted to break it, but I couldn't let myself do it. While the floor was grey, the walls and the ceiling were painted snow white. The couch was grey, and the TV was black. It had a white LED. There was a door opening to the outside... Or was it really an outside? Nobody really thought about it, but if our town, GreyWall, had something ending in it, it would be it.
Knowing what it should be, I had to get out.
Knowing it was real, I had to get out of here.
Knowing I had to use all of my time, I had to see it end.
Knowing it was decisive, I had to keep on going.
I felt my heart beat faster and faster. Was humanity going to end as I thought? Or was it our time?
Outside, a lot of people were gathered around a big cube. It was completely black. Papers were pinned on it. What kind of stone allows you to pin paper on it? Or was it a huge chunk of coal? Or probably soft plastic? I took a sheet of paper, and read it.
GreyWall,
Today is the day the experiment CHROMA has ended.
Thank you all for your cooperation. We will expect your bodies
in future experiments. Mind you feeling like escaping, the town
gates are already closed. Please use your time as you wish.
Yours truly,
Mayor Esimed.
How did it come to this? Why did it come to this? I ran back to my apartment, on the sixth floor of building eighteen. The clock showed five o'clock A.M. It is ticking back, and one hour has lasted so far. Why? Why did Mayor Esimed-... I must find the reason to all of this. We all knew about experiment CHROMA, but what is it? Or was, for the matter? I need to know. I have to know. It is my duty to search for the truth. What kind of twisted mind could think about make it stop this quickly? I don't know. No matter what, the best way to spend my time is to look for any data about this experiment. Why not? I don't know. We can only hope for our time to be as useful as needed. I had to set a few rules for myself:
If somebody asks what I'm doing, answer "Finding it".
If somebody asks what I'm doing, answer "Finding it".
Always keep some notes on what I did, and what I do.
I was ready. I don't know if I can uncover this mystery, of a town made of it's own name, but I find out. GreyWall shall know the truth. It wont be ending now.
