「And this marks the end of the class.」
A bell rang before a huge crowd of students came out of a school. A part of them were waiting for a bus, others were just looking for some place to go, mostly their own home. One of these students happened to be walking home. A black haired student with a messy haircut and basic clothing was walking home slowly, accompanied with a black haired girl and a blonde boy. They were simply walking and talking. As one of them reached his house, he waved to the two others and opened his mailbox. He found a white card. In this white card was written 「Hi」. As he didn’t understand the point of such a card in his mailbox, he just threw it away. Reaching for the door of his house, he opened it, entered, and closed it. As the night fell, he could feel a presence around him. He literally felt it around him. It wasn’t really like his heart suddentally started to beat a bit faster or he just wanted to turn around to see at a particular direction. It was actually both.
「Who are you?」 He said. 「Show yourself!」
But he was given no answer. Instead, he noticed the unusual silence from having no car or no scouter at all outside.
「Could this be a dream?」 He wondered, before heading to bed. 「If it is one, I will just wake up in no time.」
But he didn’t wake up. Instead, he fell asleep, and found himself dreaming.
「Where am I?」 He asked himself. The world he could see was a world made of shapes and colors, just like his. However, said shapes felt weird. A cubic object would just flow in an awkward way, feeling like it’s shape is changing. It suddenly became a cube inside a cube, before becoming another weird shape where all the faces were cubes. How could he even see this? What kind of sorcery let him see that kind of shape?
「What is this?」He asked himself. Indeed the world was getting weirder and weirder. He could even see colors he never saw before!
「This is so… different. Am I dreaming?」 The curious boy asked himself. He wandered in this odd shaped city before coming to a conclusion. He entered the Fourth Dimension. 「I definitely traveled to this fourth dimension.」
「You’re wrong.」 Somebody said. 「You’ve always been in this fourth dimension.」
「How come?」 The boy asked. 「It does look like the fourth dimension to me.」
「You just didn’t travel to the fourth dimension.」 The stranger answered. 「The time will come when you will understand it all.」
The boy saw people flying in the air, others fighting with weapons, and others doing tons of different things, but his attention was given to the figure in front of him. He was tall and had blue hair. He was wearing a red jacket with white stripes on each sleeve, along with a grey scarf and a pair of black pants. He had dark grey eyes and a pale skin. He was wearing leather shoes with steel parts. The whole look and the unexpressive face the standing man had gave the boy an uneasy feel. It was like he was a stranger to this world, which was actually true, but it was like he didn’t belong here… He probably was never meant to walk in this world.
「Though, it is time to wake up now. It is six already.」 The stranger said.
「Wake up, Yuuji.」
The boy woke up in his room. It was definitely a dream, nothing more.
「What was that?..」 Yuuji asked himself. As his questionning remained answerless, Yuuji kept asking questions. 「How was I able to see that kind of stuff?..」
Thinking for a while, he started preparing himself for school. He picked clothes up, along with his bag. Going downstairs, he had breakfast and went to school. On the way, he met his two friends from the day before.
「Hey, Joshua and Tsuki!」 Yuuji called. 「How’s it going?」
「I’m good.」 Joshua answered.
「So am I!」 Tsuki answered, happily, although she didn’t seem very happy to Joshua earlier.
「Good to hear! Anyone ready for PE class?」 Yuuji asked.
「I don’t really like running.」 Joshua admitted, definitely annoyed by this class.
「Eh, me neither.」 Yuuji followed.
And so, they headed to school. Yuuji having his troubles wandering in his mind, trying to sort the events of the past night. As far as he was thinking, his mind was as troubled as to ask questions to himself. ‘‘What the hell was that dream? Why can’t I just know?’’ he thought to himself. As the group was walking towards school, Yuuji was leaving his mind to wander in the deep space of the questionning. This nasty questionning which left his questions without an answer was annoying him, but he needed this. He needed an answer. There was no way he could just accept not having an answer. As more and more questions popped in his mind, Yuuji
「Is there something troubling you, Yuuji?」 Tsuki asked. 「You can tell us if anything is wrong!」
「Nah, I’m good.」 Yuuji said, still wondering about the night’s events. 「Don’t worry, I’m fine.」
「Better believe you for the moment.」 Joshua said.
「For the moment?」 Yuuji asked. 「Sounds like you’re not actually believing what you’re saying.」
「Yup. We can see you’re not really fine.」 Joshua told him, this time believing what he said.
「You know I would tell you if anything happened.」 Yuuji sighed. 「It’s not like I would hide anything from you.」
「Sure? I know it when you lie, Yuuji!」 Tsuki proclaimed. 「I’m sure there’s something wrong with you! Did something weird happen?」
「You wouldn’t really believe me, as crazy as those events sound.」 Yuuji said.
Thinking about it again, indeed the events seemed crazy enough for Yuuji to not truly believing in them happening. However, the questionning kept on coming back and forth. Yuuji started asking himself how he could remember this dream so accurately. Perhaps it wasn’t really a dream? What if it was just
「Yuuji?」 Tsuki called. 「Are you really okay?」
「Aah! Err, I’m good!」 Yuuji said, resigning from pointing out Tsuki cut his thinking chain. 「Don’t worry!」
「It’s weird.」Joshua said. 「It looks like you’re asking yourself questions like Tsuki and I did this morning.」
「You did too?」 Yuuji asked, surprised. 「What was it about?」
「Doubt you’d believe it.」 Joshua answered. 「And Tsuki said the same when I asked her.」
「Er… I wouldn’t like it if you thought I was crazy…」 Tsuki said, hesitating. That hesitation striked Yuuji as he had the thought she looked so… Cute. Really, Tsuki looked really cute, with her long dark hair with some strands coming in front of her shoulders, and her pure and deep azure eyes. It was a particular combination, but knowing her origins, it got some sense, knowing both of her parents were both half Japanese and half British. Her biracial face was amazingly cute. The way Tsuki looked was particularly beautiful. Yuuji got himself wishing he could just
「W-W-W-W-Why are you looking at me, Yuuji!?」 Tsuki stepped back, embarrassed.
The rest of the day passed with great fun to Yuuji and his two friends, but the question of what happened the previous night was still coming back to his mind. He had never seen anything like in his dream, there was elements he wouldn’t even be able to normally see. Joshua and Tsuki were also feeling awkward, since they had their own self-interrogations. The school bell rang as usual, and Yuuji started walking home, as usual, with Joshua and Tsuki. Waving to them as a good bye, he opened his mail box and found a package. Weird, his mail box was made to let only letters get in. How come a fat package managed to get in? Yuuji opened the box and picked the package. Being curious, he read the name of the sender. Real. Seriously, it was Real. The sender’s name was Real. This was a perfect example of awkwardness… and silliness… inside a can of doors. Wait, why was Yuuji making those comparisons? What kind of name was this, Real? Yuuji read the name of the receiver, before being surprised at seeing his name written. Jiyuuki Yuuji. He was completely dumbfounded, stunned, paralysed from the surprise. He never ordered anything from anything or anyone named Real.
He thought about getting back in his house and opening the package, which he did. Crossing the door, another thought struck his mind. He remembered the card from the day earlier. That white card which read «Hi» with black text. Both those two things might be related. He immediately opened the box and found a pair of headphones. There was also a message with it.
Listen to your heart beating to the sound of the cyber world. Make your entrance to the depths of the Network. Discover your true being and enter what you thought was the fourth dimension. Make sure you keep with this world your connections. Wake up, Yuuji.
This was a weird message, but it could have a double meaning. Perhaps the headphones were a gateway to a different world? But what did this so called Real mean when he said Discover your true being? Multiple thoughts dashed and ran through his head. Yuuji did notice the headphones were adjusted for his head shape. He couldn’t wait to put these on, but he wanted to be sure they didn’t have a side effect on him. He stood in front of a mirror and finally put those headphones on his head. As Yuuji put those headphones on, he
Yuuji opened his eyes. He wondered what happened. Looking at the mirror, he noticed something was wrong. He stood up, and noticed his entire appearance changed. Stylised mid long black hair, cyan shirt over a black sleeveless shirt with a circles and stripes pattern in front, blue jeans and black shoes. He turned around and kept looking at the mirror. The sleeveless shirt was hooded, and the circles and stripes pattern were also on the back, but more centered. His face changed too, but… Well, he still looked Japanese. He went out, and wondered what those headphones could do else than changing Yuuji’s general appearance. Did he have any kind of superpower? He tried focusing as much as possible at shooting random objects, but he couldn’t. Disappointed, he kicked a football ball, but to his surprise, the ball went incredibly far. Another surprise to him was that he was able to perfectly see the ball, despite it’s quick motion and big distance to Yuuji. He ran to get the ball back, before noticing he ran drastically faster than he normally would. Probably ten times as fast. He tried jumping. His legs made him go so fast he managed to have a great impulse and managed to jump on top of an appartments building. What kind of sorcery was that? He saw some table that nobody wanted to take. He took a try and kicked it. It was easy and the table was kicked far away. He then noticed he could hear a little bit the ball bouncing on the ground. He heard it as a very small sound, but it was perfectly audible to him.
「So, this is those headphones’ actual effects?」 Yuuji asked. 「Raising my speed, my strength, and making my eyes and ears a lot more accurate?」
He jumped down the building and landed safely. 「Apparently they also make me able to land from a huge height.」 He tried to run to some place he remembered. He used to spend a lot of time with Joshua and Tsuki, there. His memories continued as a sudden realization came to his mind. 「Crisis. It is this being’s name.」
